  • When people ask if you need help

Have you ever experienced being out in public, someone asked you if you need help, you said no and they continue to try and “help?“

This almost always happens whenever I use my wheelchair and it happens frequently whenever I use my walker as well. I know I struggle and I take longer but I can still manage to get where I want. If I need help, I will ask for it.

Have you encountered something like this? What has your experience been like?

Ugh, I hate that.  I mean, it’s fine when people ask if I need help, but when they ignore and push past my “no thanks,” I find that really threatening.  Usually raising my voice and saying “LET GO OF ME” makes them realize what they’re doing and back off.

I understand what you explain. In my place, in Québec, I have never experienced that kind of unrespectable attitude.
