My mom is my caregiver and our “working relationship “ is a constant work in progress. One aspect we always try to make better is our communication and her listening.

A lot of times, parents just want to help but it sometimes gets in the way of us figuring things out or completing a task. It can be frustrating.

For example, opening a jar or sorting my vitamins. If my mom comes over while I’m doing something, sometimes she will just jump in and take over. Grr! But we’re working on it.

Does this happen to you with your caregiver?

Caregivers: have you done this? Have any tips for other caregivers?

This sounds exactly like my husband. Sometimes he is so eager to help that he takes over because he automatically thinking that I need and want it. But, this is when I explain to him that there are still things I want to hold my independence onto and if I need assistance, I will ask him.
