What’s up guys? Coach Damon V. here with another rare move. I’m with my girl Morgan. And we’re going to show you guys the standing deadlift.
This is a great exercise for people who use power chairs. A lot of our power chairs actually stand up. And we can get buckled in here in the hips, so we can do it straight from the chair. If you use a manual chair or if you’re still ambulatory, you can obviously stand up and do it anywhere where you can get a handle.
All right. So this is what it looks like. Well, number one, we want our spine to stay neutral. So Morgan’s not going to round her back out. She’s going to flex at her hips. She’s going to hinge at her hips, “Right?”
We can do this weighted or unweighted. We’re going to start with a body weight one today. So it’s gonna look like this. I’m gonna stand in front of my athlete and we’ll come right here to the side and just support them via their shoulders.
“Morgan, go ahead and engage your legs and push yourself back up against the chair. Perfect.”
So Morgan’s doing all the work here keeping herself up “and starting high, Morgan.” I’m just going to have my two hands in front. And she’s going to slowly lower herself down just like that. Once she feels that stretch, she’s going to push through the feet. “Go. Nice job. More.”
That’s all Morgan doing. “Stand up. We’re gonna do two more. hinge.”
Gonna feel a stretch behind the hamstrings. We’re gonna feel glutes and push. “Great job.”
This is a great one to engage the glutes, hamstrings, the lower back.
“Push! Great job, Morgan. That looks so good. Let’s do two more.”
She’s gonna hinge flat spine.
Look at that. Look how much force. Just pushing through the feet.
“One more Morgan. Ready? Go! Woo! Nice work from here.”
I’m gonna pull back and strap her back in.
“Good job Morgan. Awesome work girl.”
