Hi i have 2 brothers and 5 sisters and 2 of my sisters have FA. None of my parents have it our anyone else in our family that we know off. My sister Lourdes is 39 years old and she was the first to learn she had FA. Because after she had her fist daughter at 20 her symptoms started and she started going to the doctors to see what was wrong a year later they still didn’t know and she got pregnant with her second daughter. After she gave birth 6 months later they finally diagnosed her with FA. They told her that both of our parents have the gene but not the disease that 1in 4 of there children could have FA. So all 7 sibling got tested and only I and my 38 year’s old sister Natividad have it. I don’t know if the doctors where right but they told us that unless we have children with someone that doesn’t have the gene our kids won’t have FA, is that wrong? Please let me know. My 40 years old sister have a 18 years old and a 17 and up to now they don’t show any signs of FA. My 38 year’s old sister have a 13 years old daughter and she doesn’t show any signs either. My son is 12 and he doesn’t show any signs. Please let me know if we weren’t informed right.

I understand her completely because not being able to do simple things is so frustrating and sometimes I get depressed and just cry.

I was in early stage of FA so i didn’t notice or my doctor’s any complications. And both my sisters that have FA had normal child birth too so i don’t think it’s more difficult. The only thing i notice when my sister was giving birth to her second daughter was that her legs did shake a lot.

I have 12 nieces and one nephew it’s great. 3 of my nieces are very considerate because there mom have FA too. I love all of them and when we all get together its great we enjoy each other company even if some of us can’t do everything they can.

Im 36 years old i have a 12 years old son and been with my husband seens i was 15. I lived in New York but now have 11 years leaving in the Dominican Republic. We moved when my son turned 7 months old. My husband is 38 year’s old and he is great. I have two older sisters that also have FA, so i learned i had FA before i had any symptoms. I started having symptoms after I gave birth to my son when i was 24. But my husband has stick by me. He only gets frustrated with me when i fall because he can’t do anything about it. Having a carrying partner makes everything so much easier.

I live in the Dominican Republic and the only effect i get from the heat is swollen feet. My sister lives in New York and she tells me it gets worst for her in the winter because her joints get stiff
