• First FA Symptoms

Every superhero has an origin story. Having FA is in no way a superpower, but it does tend to cause those who bear it to become a little more noble…

    A little more heroic…

What was your first symptom of FA, and when did it occur?

As for me, we first noticed something was out-of-the-ordinary when I was about 11, and I was having trouble keeping up with my teammates in all the sports I played. From there, I was diagnosed with Friedreich’s ataxia. 22 years later, here I am.

What about you? What was your first symptom and when?

My symptoms were similar to yours. At 11 I played a lot of soccer but then when I wanted to run with the ball I lost balance and would fall. I was a pretty fast runner too. In middle it was tough for me to walk that for p.e. I wouldn’t have to run the mile. I was diagnosed at 14 and now 27 in this FA journey.

Mine started in college. The first thing I noticed was struggling to walk up and down the stairs. I just thought it was because I partied a lot so I never thought it was anything serious!
