KRAM Wellness’ flagship product, Flexfit, is a three-in-one injury prevention product that provides a controlled stretch using an adjustable, non-elastic design. The company reports that, in addition to aiding fitness fans, this newly available device is used by chiropractors and physical therapists, and may be of benefit to people with dexterity problems, like Friedreich’s ataxia (FA) patients.

Flexfit, according to a press release, can be used for stretching to increase flexibility, whether accompanied by exercises or not. It also offers a comfortable grip single-handle with an integrated foam roller for self-myofascial therapy, allowing the user to ease tension throughout the body, and dual roller caps shaped and sized for trigger-point therapy to release tension. It features a textured foot saddle that resists slippage to ensure safe use.

The device has been tested clinically in partnership with the Micheli Center for Sports Injury Prevention, in Massachusetts. One participant, John Woodland, 36, suffered from arthritis in his back, and said that regular use helped to relieve pain, allowing him to return to the gym.

Another, Joey Mullaney, 22, an FA patient who is a fitness trainer (member of Crossfit EXP) found Flexfit to be particularly useful for people like him with hand dexterity problems. His are related to his disease.

The product’s makers, Matthew Aronson and Rachelle Wailes, came up with the original idea for Flexfit while teenagers participating in a national STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) competition in 2014, focusing on injury prevention. The founded KRAM with their parents, and refined their concept over the next two years. The company plans to begin marketing the fitness device nationwide later this year.

A major advantage to Flexfit, they said, is its compact and light-weight design, allowing its use in a home or office.

“No matter what your schedule looks like or how little time you have due to sports or school, FLEXFIT can help you.  Stretching is important to maintain flexibility and reduce the chance of injury.  The injury prevention tool makes stretching easy and effective,” Wailes said in the release.

KRAM Wellness is forming strategic partnerships with groups involved in activities like CrossFit and dance, and with physical therapy and chiropractor communities, that will allow the product to be accessible in these venues.
