While there isn’t a specific diet that is recommended for people with Friedreich’s Ataxia, certain dietary modifications and dietary supplements can help ease some symptoms, and help you feel your best when living with FA.

By making these changes to your nutrition, you can improve:

-weight management, which can reduce the strain on joints and improve mobility

-less fatigue and increased energy levels

-improved mood and better mental health

What changes have you made to your diet and nutrition?

Yes, I’ve shifted to a mostly anti-inflammatory diet, lots of greens, lean proteins, and omega-3s. I’ve also cut back on gluten and processed foods. It hasn’t cured anything, obviously, but I do notice fewer energy crashes and less overall fatigue. Supplement-wise, I take CoQ10 and alpha-lipoic acid after reading some early research. Always talk to your doc first, though, what helps one person might not help another.

I am going to try to fit more lean proteins and less processed foods into my diet!
