Encouragement for Mundane Tasks as a Caregiver
I recently read a poem on Instagram written by writer and poet David Gates titled Priesthood. In it, he lists mundane tasks and how they are sacred. I want to encourage caregivers out there who feel like what they do doesn’t matter in the grand scheme of things, that you are doing holy work.
Here is the poem:
“Doing the laundry
and the dishes
and meal preparation
are not tasks of the mundane
because being clothed
and clean
and fed
declares the dignity
of human life
and nurtures us
into new days
into new eras
they are not mundane, no
they are rituals of care”
Does this speak to you as a caregiver?
