“You’re allowed to rest without earning it.”

I saw this quote the other day, and it resonated with me. Most days when I feel fatigued/overwhelmed due to FA, I also feel a sense of guilt for needing to rest. I feel like I am not doing enough, or guilty because other people don’t realize why I am cancelling plans to see them, without them thinking they’re the reason. It is solely based on the symptoms I am experiencing.

Then I realized it’s okay to rest and listen to my body when needed. Does anyone else feel this way?

I feel guilty about prioritizing resting too much. I do not push myself to workout or wake up early and when I realize I have lost a new skill due to progression, I feel really guilty.

Losing a skill that was once simple to do is definitely a hard pill to swallow.

For most of my life i was a workaholic and a half. When I had my business it was a common thing fir me to work 60,70 even 80 hours nonstop. My body would tell me im tired but I ignored it and just kept going….I really loved my work. I owned a machine shop and loved watching the machines run and making things.

Then the dr tried and nearly succeeded in killing my wife on top of her having FA this pretty much took everything away from her . In trying to figure out how to care for her and work, I waaay over did myself and suffered a stroke. Since the stroke it’s my body that tells me im tired and I have no choice but to stop and rest because my body just stops cooperating….even when im doing something I love to do.

Had to rebuild the wheelchair ramp on our camper . What used to take me 4 or 5 hours to do took me 2 days to do.

I still push myself to do more than I know I should . Its when my legs or my back say “nope, your done” and I have to at least sit for a while when I know I’ve went too far.

Then I pay for it . Long before bedtime it’s as if my body is already asleep and when I go to get my wife in bed it is extremely painful and takes me twice as long to get her in bed and situated. Then it takes me 4 to 5 days to recover before the pain subsides enough to take on anything extra.

Have to put on a new roof on our camper . My mind says yes because I love that type of work but I know what my body has in store for me. But ill push on through as best as I can…..thats all we can strive for….to do the best we can.

If it ever stops raining long enough that is …..lol

That’s all you can do! That reminds of of what my late grandmother always used to tell me, “do what you can, while you can”. I try to live by that everyday!

I get that. But just know you’re doing what’s best for you, and I am sure they don’t feel like you’re wasting their time!

The way I look at it is , it’s a “they” problem.

If you knowingly push yourself too far and you collapse from exhaustion and someone has to help you THEN you are wasting their time and it is a “you” problem.

When I worked all those long hours I knew in the back of my mind it would eventually catch up with me and it did, I had a stroke….ever since then every time I need help doing something I used to be able to do on my own and still should be able to do, i feel guilty because it’s something I knowingly caused myself and it’s a “me” problem .

Don’t EVER push yourself too far !!

If you need to rest…..REST !! Your not wasting anyone’s time!!!

I am sorry it resulted to you having a stroke! I am glad it led to you listening to your body and it’s needs, and doing what is best for your well-being.
