I was number 4 in the family with Friedrichs Ataxia. I served 20 years in the military which is why I was not inflicted with the disease. I am 63 now and I have outlived my siblings. I really think struggling thru 20 years in the Army kept me out of a wheelchair. I am in a power-chair 99% of the time. I can still use a heavy walker for short distance. My wife and I are going to try and stay active as long as we can.
