Ronde Barber and Kyle Bryant Talk About Friedreich’s Ataxia
In this video, Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ football player Ronde Barber talks about his involvement with the non-profit organization, Friedreich’s Ataxia Research Alliance (FARA), and spokesperson Kyle Bryant talks about what it’s like to live with Friedreich’s ataxia (FA).
Bryant explains that Friedreich’s ataxia is a life-threatening degenerative neuromuscular disease and although his balance and upper body strength has been affected, he’s able to use a recumbent tricycle to help keep his heart healthy.
Friedreich’s ataxia is a genetic disease where the body doesn’t make enough of the protein frataxin, which has a dramatic effect on the muscles and nerves in the body, causing a range of symptoms.
The duo explains how FARA is dedicated to raising awareness and funds to support research projects studying the condition.
