Onset stages and FA
Did you know the onset of Friedreich’s Ataxia (FA) can vary by age?
The different onset stages are listed below:

Early onset: Symptoms begin before age 7

Typical onset: Symptoms begin between the ages of 8 and 14

Intermediate onset: Symptoms begin between the ages of 15 and 24

Late onset: Symptoms begin after age 25
Where does your or your loved ones’ onset stage lie, and what significant changes have you seen since the initial diagnosis?
For example, I was 21 years old (intermediate onset), and now I am 35 years old and have seen significant changes by now, using 2 mobility aids and experiencing major symptoms such as fatigue and slurred speech.

I fall into the Intermediate onset category. I started to show symptoms at 19 but was diagnosed at 16 due to my older sisters diagnosis. I am 23 now and use a walker when going to places with a lot of walking. My speech is also starting to slur.

Oh wow! I started noticing symptoms at 17, but was diagnosed at 21. It’s interesting how everyone’s diagnosis story is different.
