  • How do you prepare for FA specialist appointments?

Because Friedreich’s Ataxia is such a rare disease, it is important to find a designated team of healthcare professionals to monitor your FA diagnosis. This group can include a neurologist, cardiologist, orthopedist, and endocrinologist. The group may also include a genetic counselor, a physical therapist, and an occupational therapist.

To address my FA symptoms, I visit my neurologist and cardiologist annually and keep up with physical therapy in the interim. I have that appointment this week, and I am anxious to see how my symptoms have progressed from last year and to hear any research updates.

How often do you see your FA specialists? Do you do anything in particular to prepare for these appointments?
